Each-Way Extra Places Calculator

Use this each-way extra places calculator to compare a standard each-way bet with an extra places offer.

Quick explanation: Extra places can matter when a selection finishes outside the standard place terms but inside the bookmaker’s enhanced place offer.

Enter the each-way terms

Compare the result under normal place terms and enhanced extra place terms.

Total stake £20.00
Place odds 2.60
Standard result -£20.00
Extra places result £6.00
Extra places difference £26.00

Finishing 4th would lose under standard 3-place terms, but would return £6.00 profit under a 5-place offer.

What are extra places?

Extra places are enhanced each-way terms where a bookmaker pays more places than the standard market. They are common in horse racing, golf and large-field outright markets.

For example, a race may normally pay three places, but a bookmaker might offer five places. If your selection finishes fourth, the standard each-way bet would lose, but the extra places offer may pay the place part.

How the calculation works

Total stake = each-way stake × 2

Place odds = 1 + ((win odds − 1) × place fraction)

Place-only profit = place return − total stake

Extra places example

Suppose you place £10 each-way at odds of 9.00 with 1/5 place terms. Standard terms pay three places, but the bookmaker offers five places.

Finishing position Standard 3 places Extra 5 places
1st Win and place paid Win and place paid
2nd or 3rd Place paid Place paid
4th or 5th Loses Place paid
6th or worse Loses Loses
Important: Extra place terms can vary by bookmaker. Always check place terms, number of places, dead heat rules, Rule 4 deductions and non-runner rules.
